Blog #5

     While doing research on if being a vegetarian helps your body I came across that not only does it do things for your body but it does things for the environment as well. While eating a steak or a chicken  you are effectively consuming the water that the animal has needed to live and grow. Vegetarian author John Robbins calculates it takes 60, 108, 168, and 229 pounds of water to produce one pound of potatoes, wheat, maize and rice respectively.
     Not eating meats will allow animals to live longer. Not only that but you will allow animals to produce more ingredients us humans will need in our life.

    I have started to research facts about being a vegetarian and what types of things it does to better your life. Becoming a vegan requires you to make drastic changes to your diet. You have to eliminate anything of animal origin, which includes meat, seafood, cheese, milk, eggs, fish and gelatin. You may experience weight loss by switching to a strict vegetarian diet, since many fruits, vegetables and other plant foods are low in calories.
     Vegetarian eating patterns have been associated with improved health outcomes including lower levels of obesity, a reduced risk of heart disease and lower blood pressure. Not only does being a vegetarian help your body it also helps the environment.

In a couple of weeks Dayeesha and I will also be asking our classmate Taylor Niemer (a vegetarian)questions on how becoming a vegetarian has effected her lifestyle and life as a whole. We will also ask her If she has any regrets of being a vegetarian.
   We will do research regarding being and becoming vegetarian. How does it better ones life and if there are any advantages and disadvantages in doing this. All these questions will help me understand
the life of a vegetarian more.

Dayeesha and I plan on becoming vegetarians for the month of April. We will change our eating habits by going to the store and buying all the necessary foods to become vegetarians. We will be getting books and recipes to help us decide on what types of foods we would like to try and what types foods looks interesting to us. The Oh She Glows Cookbook has over 100 recipes in it. Dayeesha and I came to a conclusion that we want to try and become vegetarians. We want to become vegetarians because it gives us a healthy living style. It helps people live longer lives and gets their bones stronger. Being a vegetarian provides all the necessary nutrients for your body.
